What does is say about Christians singing onward Christian soldiers on the battlefield?

It was sung during WW2 Korean and Vietnam war. And now that Biblical symbols and messages are on many weapons, what does that say about singing that song along side of a tank with the sign of the cross on it as it rumbles down the street? and last of all what does that say about those who find such a tune uplifting when such a song is sung during a conflict? What does is say about Christians singing onward Christian soldiers on the battlefield?
you do realise that most German soldiers were Christians during WWII, and were also singing hymns and pleading to 'god' that the National Socialist party would prevail?

My own father was a CofE christain and fought in WWII at El Alamein, amongst other places. I have no problem with the politics of the war, but to bring 'god' into the equation is sheer hypocrisy

victims of greedy leaders
That they believed in God? They also had priests and ministers in battle, too. What's your point? Christians must be bent toward violence if they would sing such a thing in battle? Please! Frankly, I can't imagine any singing allowed in battle as it would let the enemy know where you were. What does is say about Christians singing onward Christian soldiers on the battlefield?

It says that the blind can lead the blind...and that the destination is the ditch
