If a Marine or Soldier find a weapon on the battlefield are they allowed to use it for the rest of their tour?

simply curiousIf a Marine or Soldier find a weapon on the battlefield are they allowed to use it for the rest of their tour?
Actually no,it isin't against the Geneva convention,it is against the Geneva convention if you supply your entire force with enemy weapons, You can basically use anything you find in war, Jack Churchill fought in world war 2 Only using a Long Bow and a Claymore Sword.
With logistics today it would be very rare and improbable for us to be anywhere now without being able to be re-supplied with Arms and ammo anyway. And of course we use 7.62 , it is a standard NATO round as much as 5.56 is.

But obviously in a heat of the moment situation you do what is necessary to stay alive and keep your teammates alive, nobody is going to take fire and causalities and sit there unarmed or out of ammo and think "oh dam i can't use that rifle in case it has rounds that don't comply with geneva convention" , that is total rubbish.

Obviously you couldn't keep it till the of your tour and you would be resupplied issued items as soon as you got back to baseIf a Marine or Soldier find a weapon on the battlefield are they allowed to use it for the rest of their tour?
Anything you do in Call of Duty is wrong...

To build on what MC Wells said... We are authorized to use the NATO 5.56 round (.223 in civilian life) The Weapon commonly used against us is the AK-47 which uses a 7.62 round.

Yes the 240B is a 7.62 round.... That slipped my mind.. but I wouldnt go as far saying we use it as much as the 5.56... M16, M4, M249 all use 5.56... 240B is the only 7.62 round weapon I can think of right now...
It isn't unusual for Marines to run low on ammo. They are put in situations that require ingenuity. If they need to pick up an enemy weapon and ammo they will do it. Once they are resupplied they'll go back to their own weapons.

Here are some articles where Marines were low on ammo. And I didn't find the one I was looking for where they fixed bayonets when they were down to their last magazine, hunkered down and waited for an attack. When you operate in small teams you will get into situations with larger numbers and run low on ammo. You'll use anything which will keep you alive.

In training you become very "educated" about your weapon, you will be able to take your weapon apart, fix it, and put it back together, so im not sure you would want to use a different weapon
depends, I have heard stories of Marines using ak 47's, then tossing them if things got to heated. in my unit that would never fly, so i guess it all depends on the Commanding officer.
They are not allowed but I have seen it happen.
No they can not do that. It could be a weapon against Geneva Convention and you would go to jail.
No
