Let's just say at random... Omaha beach during the D-day landing of June 6th 1944.
A lot of mean died on the beaches, thus a lot of weapons hit the ground.
How do they clean the area of a battlefield and is it possible that they miss a lot of the items.
Let's just say I was to go to Omaha beach today (I don't know the name) and start digging, what are the odds I find anything... Whether it be an ammo case or a "fossilised" BAR?
Thank youWhat happens to the weapons from a battle ground?
Weapons are cleared along with the bodies and gore after the battles are over. Yes, some items are left, scavengers come along and clean up most; and most older battlefields have been thoroughly gone over by collectors with metal detectors. You might find some small items.
they're sold as suveneirsWhat happens to the weapons from a battle ground?
If you dive offshore about 10-30 yards you may find some rusted relics. If you dig on the beach the frogs will arrest you.
I'm sure you'd be able to find some... but most were cleaned up or picked up by other scavengersWhat happens to the weapons from a battle ground?
they have working parties clean up everything, besides loosing a weapon is a big deal now a days. but at omaha beach you prob. wouldnt find anything bc 1 its salt water and 2 it was 60 yrs ago im sure someone allready found all the stuff
Pretty poor. These areas were swept pretty good after the invasion and then swept again by 60 years of beach combers. After a battle the soldiers clean up the wrecks that are deemed salvageable all small arms are taken to prevent the enemy or civilians getting there hands on them. At most you might find shell casings, bullets and minor items but it's rare to find anything like a gun. It does happen even on our civil war battlefields occasionally a musket or pistol is found. However it's still very rare.
in modern war it is sent to other parts of the world like, africa, asia, so they start fighting each other so it makes the american goal of stealing thier natural resources a lot easier, does iraq ring a bell, columbia, most african countires
I think you would be lucky to find something but you probably could if you had the time...
but why would you? Thats hallowed ground as is ALL battlefields.
Why dont you go there and just say a prayer and tell those souls that you are proud of what they went to do?
The answer to your question is in the movie."Lord of war" with nicloas cage!!
Most are never recovered, any active weapons will be destroyed or defused.
I would say that Omaha is pretty clean unless you went a ways offshore because most of our boys were jumping from the landing crafts a ways offshore to avoid the machine gun fire that the p u s s y a s s germans were spraying at them. Then they would just drop their gear in the water, swim to shore, and pick up a replacement from a fallen comrade. I just recently saw a treasure hunter guy find a fully enclosed MP44 german maching gun. It was perfectly intact and could still be fired. It was found in an old german bunker.
Go to Gettysburg Battlefield. The place is still crammed with musket balls etc.
